Emily’s Recovery Story

There was a version of me who truly believed I would never make it this far. Walking through Alcove’s doors on my first day was terrifying. I did not know what to expect, who I would meet, or whether I would belong. What I found was more than I expected. At Alcove, I found peace, hope, and the space to begin discovering who I really am. I stopped chasing other people’s dreams and started creating my own. Through the program, I began working through trauma, rebuilding my self-worth, and reconnecting with my passions. Most importantly, Alcove helped me begin repairing my relationship with my children, which has been one of the greatest gifts of my recovery.
My journey has been a shift from surviving to becoming a warrior. For a long time, survival meant simply making it from one hard moment to the next. It meant enduring pain without truly living. But through recovery, something changed. A warrior does not just endure, a warrior rebuilds. A warrior faces what hurts, keeps showing up, learns to breathe through chaos, and chooses self-respect, self-compassion, and self-love over shame. I did not choose everything that happened to me, but I am choosing who I become moving forward. My story is a reminder that every woman who walks through Alcove’s doors is choosing a new path, and that recovery makes it possible to stand in the rain until the blue skies appear again.
